HP Pavilion G7-2238NR 17.3-Inch Laptop Review – A Powerful, Multitasking Tool Built For The Busy Professional Of Today

The recent launch of HP’s new G series notebooks impressed the public with its Windows 8 compatibility, crisp HD video provision, high resolution and powerful processor, all packed in an excellent compact and attractive HP trademark design.

HP Pavilion G7-2238NR Specs, Features – A great tool for the professional constantly on the road

The G7 provides high portability, arguably more than enough storage, a great display and supports multitasking. In other words, it comes with most of the features that an executive who is always on the go can’t do without. Let’s elaborate.

The HP Pavilion, which boasts a powerful dual-core processor, was introduced on the market in the second quarter of 2012. To be more precise, even though it is considered the direct descendant of the notorious Llano A-series A6-4400M, the processor is slightly better, particularly if you intend to employ it for daily sessions of Microsoft Office utilization and heavy internet browsing.

The G7 integrates a 17.3” BrightView LED-backlit display and it is capable of supporting a resolution of 1600 x 900, which is ideal for watching movies, clips and cinematics in HD. In addition to the optimal resolution and quality of the display, the device incorporates Dolby Digital Advanced Audio Speakers, making it one of the best choices for users who enjoy watching movies on their laptops.

In spite of the fact that the G7’s AMD Radeon HD 7520G graphic card comes with reduced clock speed and shader count, it is necessary to mention that this chip performs significantly well compared to the Intel’s HD 4000 series. While it is true that users will not be able to try out the newest video games released on the market, they can still enjoy a decent frame-rate and quality on most games; old and new. Moreover, the CPU includes a CoolSense feature that maintains the laptop cool even after hours of continuous playing.

While some users might be disappointed by the fact that the G7 integrates only 4 GB of DDR 3 RAM, keep in mind that this is the standard for notebooks. In case you are unhappy with just 4 GB of RAM, then you will glad to learn that you can upgrade it to 8 GB.

The notebook comes with a 500 GB SATA hard drive, which is more than you will ever need for both work and leisure purposes.

The new G series feature a 6-cell Lithium battery that will keep the laptop running smoothly for approximately 3.15 hours.

G7 comes with an already installed version of Windows 8, but can also support Windows 7.

Weighing 6.57 pounds, the Pavilion is a pretty light and compact notebook, you won’t have any trouble carrying with you wherever you need it.

As previously mentioned, G7 features Dolby Digital Advanced Audio speakers that are not only able to play a crisp and clear sound, but also support a deep bass note.

In addition to the typical notebook touchpad and keyboard, the G7 also incorporates the 10-key numeric keypad, a very useful feature for those who work with numbers.

Optical Drive:

The Pavilion comes with an inbuilt CD/DVD writer and a media card reader.

G7 can support 802.11b/g/n WLAN.

It comes with one year warranty.

Other Noteworthy Features: The G7 Pavilion incorporates other useful features, such as:

  • HP Pavilion g7-2238nr 17.3-inch laptop1 HDMI port
  • 3 USB ports, 2 out of which are 3.0
  • A VGA port
  • A headphone-out and a microphone-in port
  • HP ProtectSmart HDD protection
  • TrueVision and HD webcam that ensure a clear view of the screen irrespective of the light
  • The HP connected photo features that permits you to sync pictures from your smartphone and tablet

Unlike most laptops – Alienware excluded of course – that do not allow you to play for hours due to overheating of the CPU, the CoolSense feature ensures you will not experience this issue on the HP Pavilion. In addition, the other strong points of the notebook include the comfortable keyboard, the excellent screen resolution and a great design.

While the laptop allows you to play a variety of games, it does not support hardcore gaming. Furthermore, considering that it is touted to address the busy profession of today, it lacks a mandatory feature, namely the Bluetooth connectivity.

Consumer Rating

G7 enjoys a great reputation and received 4 out of 5 stars rating on specialty sites. As one of the customers pointed out, even though the screen might appear bigger than the regular laptop users are accustomed to, it is excellent for his dad who has poor eyesight. I certainly stand by that!

The HP Pavilion G7-2238NR constitutes an excellent tool for anyone who needs to travel on a regular basis. The powerful processor and the excellent graphic chip make it ideal for working and light playing at the same time. Moreover, the 17.3” display and HD resolution are just the things you need to relax by watching a movie after a hectic day at the office!
